Ohmic Response of a Classical Particle Coupled to a non-Ohmic Bath

چکیده
We study the Hamiltonian motion of an ensemble of unconfined classical particles driven by an external field F through a translationally-invariant, thermal array of monochromatic Einstein oscillators. The system has, over macroscopic time scales, both a well-defined low-field mobility μ that is independent of F , and a well-defined diffusion constant D at zero field. The system therefore exhibits Ohmic behavior in spite of the fact that the bath is strongly non-Ohmic, since its frequency distribution has both an ultraviolet cutoff and an infrared gap. The latter is usually associated with superdiffusive behavior.

Normal transport properties in a metastable stationary state for a classical particle coupled to a non-Ohmic bath
We study the Hamiltonian motion of an ensemble of unconfined classical particles driven by an external field F through a translationallyinvariant, thermal array of monochromatic Einstein oscillators. The system does not sustain a stationary state, because the oscillators cannot effectively absorb the energy of high speed particles. We nonetheless show that the system has at all positive tempera...

متن کاملQuantum phase transitions in a charge-coupled Bose-Fermi Anderson model
We study the competition between Kondo physics and dissipation within an Anderson model of a magnetic impurity level that hybridizes with a metallic host and is also coupled, via the impurity charge, to the displacement of a bosonic bath having a spectral density proportional to s. As the impurity-bath coupling increases from zero, the effective Coulomb interaction between two electrons in the ...
متن کاملEnvironment-induced Decoherence in Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics
We address the question of the appearence of ordinary quantum mechanics in the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics. We obtain the noncommutative extension of the Hu-Paz-Zhang master equation for a Brownian particle linearly coupled to a bath of harmonic oscillators. We consider the particular case of an Ohmic regime.
متن کاملExact decoherence to pointer states in free open quantum systems is universal.
In this Letter it is shown that exact decoherence to minimal uncertainty Gaussian pointer states is generic for free quantum particles coupled to a heat bath. More specifically, the Letter is concerned with damped free particles linearly coupled under product initial conditions to a heat bath at arbitrary temperature, with arbitrary coupling strength and spectral densities covering the Ohmic, s...
